Zenji single images

Katika kuimarisha hali za wananchi kiuchumi hususani makundi maalum kumekuwa na jitihada za kuwahamasisha wananchi kuanzisha miradi mbali ya kiuchumi.

Mfano wa miradi hiyo ni mfuko wa maendeleo ya wananchi (TASAF), mradi shirikishi wa maendeleo ya kilimo na uwezeshaji (PADEP), mradi wa usimamizi wa mazingira ya bahari na ukanda wa pwani (MACEMP) nk, ambayo imelenga katika kuimarisha hali za wananchi katika kupambana na umaskini.

Mafanikio na changamoto za miradi hii lilimulikwa na Mwinyimvua Abdi Nzuki.

Since the introduction of multipart system in early 1990s, the politics of Zanzibar have been marked by repeated clashes between two political parties, CCM and CUF.

Contested elections in late 2000 led to a massacre in Zanzibar in January 2001 when the government shot into crowds of protestors, killing more than twenty people and injuring about 600. Sharifa Rashid Said interviewed the some of the widows and victims in Pemba.

A large proportion of the Zanzibar export earnings come from cloves. The greatest concentration of clove trees is found on Pemba, as growing conditions here are superior to those on Unguja Island.

During the clove blooming season, visitors are welcomed by the scents of cloves or “marashi ya karafuu” and the songs of honeybees looking for nectar. Because of higher rainfall it receives annually and the dense clove plantations, Pemba is always green, Ms Mgeni Khamis Kombo, from Pemba Press Club sheds light on the clove farming and the welfare of its farmers.

On August 9, 2010 members of the Zanzibar House of Representatives discussed and overwhelmingly endorsed the island’s 10th constitutional amendment, which paves the way for the formation of the Government of National Unity (GNU) between rival parties after the October general elections.

This followed the referendum results held on July 31 adopted by 66.4 percent of voters to form the GNU after a long time political turmoil between CCM and CUF parties. Haroub Hussein Khamis interviwed some of the Islanders and get their opinion the coming government.
